Philosophy of the School of Engineering The School of Engineering, by providing education and research under the concept "Learn to Create," is committed to fostering competent engineers who can truly serve the well-being and safety of humankind. The School is also committed to aiding the progress of culture and industries in Japan and Hyogo Prefecture by developing and disseminating engineering and technological knowledge acquired through creative, pioneering research.
In addition to providing general education courses designed to cultivate higher ethics, the School seeks to deepen cross-cultural understanding and enhance abilities in global communication, giving students highly specialized education and research guidance rooted in the strength of basic engineering education, so as to develop expert engineers and researchers with qualifications and abilities that meet international standards.
Global Citizenship Education
The School of Engineering aims to nurture fully competent engineers that have not only gained basic engineering knowledge and specialized skills but who are also capable of playing key roles on the global stage.
The School of Engineering has established an extracurricular coaching system within which all the faculty members get assigned to several freshmen and through which then provide meticulous advice regarding their studies, campus life, etc.

Through general education courses from throughout the University of Hyogo, the School of Engineering offers an education that fosters high levels of ethics, deepens cross-cultural understanding, and enhances global communication abilities. The specialized education is provided via three different departments: the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Metallurgy, and the Department of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.
The curriculum of this department was designed to enable students to master a broad range of basic knowledge and also highly specialized knowledge in the areas of electricity, electronics, and computer science, for example the energy, electronics, and computers that play such vital roles in our advanced information society, while fostering engineers and researchers who are open-minded and have the ability to conduct pioneering, creative research which is based on the knowledge they have acquired.
The curriculum of this department was designed to enable students to acquire a wide range of knowledge in an education system where mechanical engineering and material engineering get merged in meeting the needs of the next generation, and to foster engineers and researchers who are equipped with the capability of both identifying and solving problems and with deep sensibilities and flexible thought processes with respect to manufacturing while taking the environment in consideration as well.
The curriculum of this department was designed to enable students to familiarize themselves with basic and specialized knowledge with respect to “chemistry,” or chemical substances and their chemical engineering processes in a broad range of areas that include life science, information, medical care, pharmaceuticals, and the universe and energy. The department also nurtures engineers and researchers who have creativity, originality, and international minds and allows them to think in a flexible but comprehensive manner.
