Challenging the frontiers of materials science in the 21st century, the Major of Materials Science and Chemistry promotes research and education, under the basic philosophy of cultivating knowledge on materials science to achieve an "innovative understanding of phenomena" and to "tailor and control new phenomena."

Students are trained in techniques for synthesizing and analyzing substances by applying basic organic chemical reaction mechanisms. Through research and coursework, students acquire the ability to design and synthesize novel, high-functional organic, polymer and biomedical materials.
