3-D rendering
and volumetry of lateral ventricles (LVs) using 3-D SPGR MR images help to
diagnose quantitatively and qualitatively many types of cerebral diseases. This
paper shows a fully automated method for segmenting lateral ventricles.
Experimental
results on 20 normal subjects, 20 Alzheimer’s disease (AD), and 20 normal
pressure hydrocephalus
(NPH) showed
that their volumetric relation between the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and the
lateral ventricles were significantly different (P < 0.001). 3-D rendering and volumetric produced
by this study can give us a useful tool to assess the brain atrophy.
