April 1944
Hyogo Prefectural Higher Technical School was established.
April 1944
Renamed Hyogo Prefectural Technical College.
June 1946
Relocated to Idei, Himeji City.
April 1949
Himeji Institute of Technology was established with departments of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Applied Chemistry.
April 1962
Department of Industrial Mechanical Engineering was established.
April 1965
Department of Electronics was established.
April 1966
Department of Metallurgical Engineering was established.
April 1968
Master's programs were established in the Graduate School of Engineering: Applied Chemistry and Industrial Mechanical Engineering.
April 1970
Relocated to Shosha, Himeji City.

Master's programs in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Metallurgical Engineering were established in the Graduate School of Engineering.

Himeji Institute of Technology Senior High School was established.
Laboratory of Advanced Science and Technology for Industry was established through the reorganization and renaming of the Research Institute for Fundamental Engineering.

Metallurgical Engineering Program in the Graduate School of Engineering was renamed Materials Science and Engineering Program.
April 1996
Master's programs in the Graduate School of Science were renamed doctoral first-term programs.
Doctoral second-term programs in Material Science and Life Science were established in the Graduate School of Science.

Master's programs in the Graduate School of Engineering were reorganized into Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Materials Engineering programs.

Division of General Education was abolished.

Faculty of Human Science and Environment was established with the Department of Human Science and Environment.

Doctoral second-term programs in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Materials Engineering were established in the Graduate School of Engineering through the reorganization of the Production Engineering Program.
The Institute of Natural and Environmental Sciences was reorganized into divisions of Natural Environment, Landscape Design and Management, and Rural Ecology.

Center for Industry–University Cooperation was established.

Master's program in Human Science and Environment was established in the Graduate School of Science and Human Science and Environment.

The School of Engineering became part of the University of Hyogo.

Himeji Institute of Technology was closed.
April 2015
The School of Engineering reorganized and renamed its departments: Electrical and Electronic Information Engineering, Mechanical and Materials Engineering, and Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.
April 2026
The former three departments and six courses were reorganized into one department with five courses: Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Informatics, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Design, and Applied Chemistry.

The Graduate School of Engineering was reorganized into six programs: Electrical Materials Engineering, Electronic and Information Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Synchrotron Radiation Engineering, Applied Chemistry, and Chemical Engineering.
April 2026
The six programs were reorganized into one program with six fields: Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Informatics, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Design, Synchrotron Radiation Engineering, and Applied Chemistry.
